We were happy to serve a favorite southern food – collard greens – to students in February. These were grown on Lonjevity Farm in Marion County by farmer Jill Jenkins. Students learned something about the origin, culture, and nutrition from collards from trading cards (elementary school), morning announcements, and from signage on the lunch line.
We also grow collards at our 16 school gardens, as well as at the Farm to School Hub – giving students the opportunity to grow and harvest this southern super-food themselves.
