Our district joined others around the state to participate in the October Cucumber Crunch. October is Farm to School Month, and it happens to kick off our growing season as well (we do grow things in the summer, but not nearly as much). Our cucumbers came from the Family Garden again this year. We have a contract with them to continue growing for us until it gets too cold, and then to start back up in the spring. In addition, our Growing Educational Training programs’ hydroponic cucumbers will be ready to harvest soon and should continue through until it gets too hot! Like so many other products, really fresh cucumbers truly taste different. Hope you get a chance to try some from your local farmers market.
